About The Region
Loubès-Bernac is in the Lot-et-Garonne Department, a few miles to the south of the Dordogne River and extremely close to both the Gironde and Dordogne Departments, making it an excellent base for exploring this beautiful area of France.
The countryside is quite open and rolling but wooded in places. Deer, badgers and birds of prey are just some of the wildlife that can be seen as you drive around. It is only a few miles to Duras with its magnificent château, and to several very attractive bastide towns such as Eymet and Monpazier, whilst larger towns around half an hour's drive away include Ste. Foy la Grande, Bergerac and Marmande. Bordeaux and Sarlat are about 70 miles away and the sea at Arcachon about 100 miles.
All towns have markets and there are many good restaurants in the neighbourhood. The local shop offers a good selection at reasonable prices and there are supermarkets at Duras, Sigoulès, Ste. Foy, Bergerac and Marmande. Throughout the summer numerous outdoor activities such as swimming, cycle and canoe hire, tennis courts and fishing lakes are available within a few miles. There are several golf courses in the area including the renowned Château des Vigiers, which is about 10 minutes away.
Bordeaux, Bergerac, Monbazillac and St. Emilion are famous for their wines worldwide, while there are many opportunities in the immediate area for tasting and buying. The area is also well known for its fruit, especially the pruneaux d'Agen.
